my heart stopped when you started to leave
did this mean it was really over
did this mean we would have to go
back to the beginning

i turned around as my eyes filled with tears
but you turned your back on me
i needed your arms around me
but you needed your hands to shut the door
the door slammed shut in front of me..

i thought of things to say, to do
i never did what i said i’d do
i never said what i wanted..

you pinned me down, i shut you out
just stuff i couldn’t handle
i never believed you really loved me
i just loved the idea to start with

you came back, held me close
you were further away than ever
i needed your arms around me
and you needed your mind to shut the door
your heart slammed shut in my face..
